Doing Your Part: Taking Responsibility for Your Health, Happiness, and Healing

At some point in life, we are all invited to ask an important question:
Am I doing my part?

So often, we look outside of ourselves for answers, relief, and healing. We seek out health care professionals, therapists, complementary and alternative medicine professions —believing, consciously or unconsciously, that they will fix us.

And to be clear, these individuals are incredibly skilled and absolutely have the ability to provide healing, support, assistance, and guidance. Their work is valuable and often necessary. But they are not meant to carry the full responsibility of our healing.

Let me share an example.

I was a massage therapist back in the day, and I knew my clients came to me seeking relief. In many cases, there was an unspoken expectation that I would “fix” their aches and pains. Even then, in many cases, I understood that I couldn’t truly fix anything without their participation. I would share stretches and exercises they needed to do outside of our sessions, knowing that the real healing happened in the moments between appointments. Unfortunately, many didn’t take the time or make the effort to follow through. Without changing anything in our day-to-day lives—and in these cases, without stretching, strengthening, or genuinely caring for our bodies—we often find ourselves returning again and again, sometimes for years, continually hoping someone else will fix what only we can tend to.

Looking back, I can see how this same pattern (in a slightly different perspective) showed up in my own life. Just as my clients focused on the hope I could fix their pain without changing anything beyond the session, I too focused on the believe that if I followed all the rules and did everything that was asked of me, my body would eventually heal. I was committed and willing—but again, like many of my clients, my efforts were focused in only one direction.

As many of you know, I struggled for years with illness, dis-ease in my body, and chronic physical ailments that caused significant pain and distress. For over a decade, I approached my health with determination—committing myself to every treatment, practice, and approach recommended by medical professionals and other health experts, including complementary and alternative therapies. By all accounts, I was doing everything “right,” yet despite all my efforts, the results were minimal to none. I truly believed I was doing everything I could, but there were no further options being offered to me. What I couldn’t see at the time was that all of my time and effort were focused solely on the physical body.

It wasn’t until I began my spiritual journey that I discovered the missing piece. I still remember the exact day I heard it, clear as day within me: you need to do your part within. At first, I didn’t know what that meant, but I trusted it. And in time, Spirit showed me how—by tending not just to my body, but to my soul as well.

Healing requires participation.

And this doesn’t apply only to the physical body.

Creating lasting change in your life starts with your awareness.

We are whole beings—mind, body, and soul. If we are experiencing recurring illness, chronic pain, emotional distress, or persistent life challenges, and we are constantly seeking others to repair us without looking inward, something essential is being missed.

Again, support is important. Assistance is valuable. Medical care (complementary and alternative medicine), and therapeutic modalities all have their place. But they are there to assist you—not to replace your responsibility to yourself.

You are responsible for:

  • The way you think

  • The way you behave

  • The way you react

  • The way you care for your emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing

And here’s the challenge—how can we take responsibility if we aren’t aware?

Shifting old patterns.

How do you change patterns if you don’t know why you think the way you do?
How do you respond differently if you don’t understand your emotional triggers?
How do you make aligned choices if you’re living from beliefs that were unconsciously learned or handed down to you?

Awareness is the key.

This is where true healing begins.

When I work with clients, I assist by guiding you back to your own awareness, understanding, and clarity. It’s about creating those powerful aha moments—those moments when you finally see yourself clearly and realize you have a choice. I do this by utilizing my gifts as a psychic medium and spiritual healer, alongside my inner wisdom, lived experience, and the methods I’ve learned directly from Spirit.

The work isn’t about giving you answers from the outside, but about helping you reconnect with the wisdom that already exists within you.

With awareness comes strength.
With understanding comes confidence.
With clarity comes the ability to choose differently—choices that are aligned with who you truly are, not who you were conditioned to be.

As a society, we are often taught to look outward for solutions. To hand our power over. To expect others to do the work for us. However, true healing doesn’t work that way.

Others can walk beside you.
Others can support and guide.
But you must do your part.

Taking responsibility for yourself is about empowerment. It’s about reclaiming your role in your own life, health, and happiness.

Awareness is the doorway.
Responsibility is the path.
And follow-through is where real transformation begins.

Committing and devoting your time, effort, and love to yourself is where support meets responsibility—and how you begin to do your part.

Take the first step, with me.
